The Greek Community of Alexandria in 2014 finalized a project of great cultural and historical significance. The only, Music Museum in the whole Greek Diaspora was created in Alexandria inside the Greek Quarter. The museum has the name “Chistos Neamonitis” in honor of a great teacher and musician, who for forty years helped his students in the Averofio High School travel to the magical world of music. The museum is housed in two halls that home rare documents of Neamonitis’s collection, old musical instruments, and a rich music library of music scores from all genres. This museum aims to highlight the contribution of the Greek Community in this important cultural sector, but also to motivate young people to get involved with music. After all, the Greek Community of Alexandria has a tradition in the European music and mostly in the Byzantine music.
