The Greek Community of Alexandria, founded in 1843, functions according to the Egyptian law. The statutes of the Community, with registration number 304 which was approved by the Egyptian Ministry of Social Affairs at 03.04.1968, under the relevant Convention between the Governments of Greece and Egypt, on 02.10.1949 (as an application of the Montreux Convention, which was signed in 1937), provides that the Greek Community of Alexandria is composed by members Greek in origin and nationality, residing in Alexandria and its suburbs. Since then, the Greek Community of Alexandria functions continuously. Its purpose is to provide cultural, educational, social and religious services to its members through various activities and events.
